Luved this bag. We had this bag for a back-pack trip in asia. We were able to expand and compact bag depending on use. We would compact for plane ride hiding the straps and making it more �profesionnal� looking. Had no problems for carry on with this bag (air canada, air asia, singapore airlines, pacific airways) That was also usefull when we would arrive in nice hotels (I was using hotel points).
This bag can hold lots (especially if you're using compression bags for your clothing). It can also hold little without looking too odd by titening the straps on top. There are 2 mesh pockets inside and 2 outer zipped pockets. The back and hip straps are ok, they do not compare to the high end ones but are fine if you plan on having the pack on a few hours per day.
The conversion from back-pack to sleek travel bag takes 2 minutes.
Would buy again.

Me: 5'9" and my husband: 6'1". 14 days, 3 countries, and traveling by train & plane in the snow! Only bags we took and never once did we have to check our bags.. they fit perfectly under the seat [even on a delta plane in coach class!] over the seat [on the trains], or in luggage bins under hostel bunkbeds! LOVE this bag. Mine weighed 23.5 pounds and my husbands weighed 22 pounds when it was packed with all the gear we needed for freezing temps on our UK adventure. The only recommendation? Buy packing cubes to organize inside the bag! We used Rick Steves (3 pack) and it worked great.

I imported this bag from the US to the UK for me to take on a 3 month backpacking trip to SE ASIA last summer. I spent a lot of time looking for the right bag and decided this was as close as I was going to get to everything I was looking for. I was specifically looking for a small bag (under 50 liters) and ideally one that would allow me to stow as hang luggage rather than check in on flights. I never had a problem with this and I've traveled on Airlines in UK, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Ireland.. all airlines have happily accepted this at full capacity to go in the overhead compartment (even Ryan Air - notoriously bad low cost airline in the UK). The other great features of this bag is the lockable zips which came in handy several times in Asia, the compression straps which mean the bag feel sturdy even when not full. I like the idea of the fold away straps although realistically trying to fold them away when the bag is full is a chore and something I never bothered with. The bag can easily hold enough for a short or long trip, I cant imagine needing anything bigger (and I'm a girl and also carry DSLR equipement). The only downside of this bag is there could do with a bit more padding on the back. If I were Osprey I would forget the fold away straps and make the back more comfy. Oh also, I forgot the mention the reinforced sides are also amazing, make everything so much more secure! Anyway a year on and this bag is still in very good condition the only thing thats broken is one of the small plastic clips that holds the compression strap in place but that doesnt bother me so yeah all in all great bag! will probably go straight out and buy another if they change the back! x
